NewsAugust 2011Grand Opera House York.When the Grand Opera House wanted to upgrade its 12 motorised hoists, drive system and control, the Tecnical Staff put together a design that would allow individual speed and direction control of each of the flying bars from a central console. Robolights role was to manufacture the control console,connection point and interconnecting cables along with a custom wheeled frame to allow easy movement of the console around the stage. This project made use of the recently introduced modular Han-Eco System connectors from Harting which allow the integration of multiple services, contact types and ratings into a single connector assembly.

For more information see: July 2011Backwell School, Bristol.July 2011 sees the installation of new audio facility panels within the recently completed £2M Sixth Form Centre at Backwell School.The new centre is spread over two floors and includes a new lecture and performance theatre, a dance studio, extra classrooms and social and working areas. Robolights part in this project was to manufacture and assemble a range of audio visual facility panels ready for installation by the specialist electrical contractor.

For more information see: Everyman Theatre Cheltenham.The performance space at the Everyman Theatre is the earliest surviving example of the work of renowned 19 Century theatre Architect Frank Matcham. July 2011 sees the theatre undergoing a £3M refurbishment which amongst other things includes restoration of all the ceiling artwork, new auditorium seating, carpeting and drapes. The work is due to be completed in September 2011 in time for Ken Dodd to tread the boards as the opening act. Robolights involvement in this project was to manufacture, assemble and wire the facility panels for the production lighting, audio and control infrastructure ready for installation by the projects main electrical contractor.

The new system includes an SM desk and cue light outstations manufactured by industry innovators GDS. Robolights also manufactured and supplied 44 local volume control points as part of the upgrade of the show relay and paging systems.

Scarborough Spa.March 2011 sees Robolights manufacturing a wide selection of audio, production lighting and power distribution panels for the Scarborough Spa project. All panels were supplied pre-assembled and wired ready for the specialist electrical contractor to install. Robolights also manufactured a Stage Managers desk connection point for use with the SM desk supplied by industry innovators GDS.

The unit allows users to connect three phase loads of up to 400A using Powerlock connectors for phase, neutral and protective conductors. Local isolation, power indicators and an interlocked hinged front cover make this a neat and safe solution for providing temporary supplies.

Cunard Queen Elizabeth.![]() ![]() ![]()
Named in October 2010 by HM The Queen, the Queen Elizabeth is the latest Cunard cruise liner to take to the high seas. She is a stunning vessel with superb facilities following in the tradition of predecessors the Queen Elizabeth and the QE2. Royal Court Theatre - Audio stage boxes.
The Queen Elizabeth boasts a fully equipped theatre complete with the latest entertainment technologies which plays host
to the resident Queen Elizabeth Theatre Company who entertain guests with musical productions, plays and much more. In
September 2010 Robolights were asked to manufacture a number of specially colour coded audio stage boxes to provide tie
lines from the stage to the control positions. Each unit was supplied with colour coded and numbered connectors to ensure

Edinburgh Playhouse.The Edinburgh Playhouse has the largest audience capacity for a UK working theatre with over 3,000 seats. Originally designed by architect John Fairweather as a cinema, it opened its doors in 1929 and has had an impressive list of performers through its stage door ever since.

2010 saw a return to the Playhouse with Robolights manufacturing a number of specialist items to integrate with the buildings fire alarm system. These items included a large temporary sound power supply for the band rehearsal room fitted with a wide range of protected single and three phase power outlets. This unit is also integrated with the fire and evacuation system to enable disconnection of power in the event of an alarm. Other items included were several bespoke fireman's microphone call points for making emergency announcements.

Theatre Royal Bath.The Theatre Royal Bath is one of the oldest theatres in Britain dating back to 1805. The architecture of the building is to say the least impressive with superb detailed plasterwork, classic red and gilt decoration and ornate chandeliers within the auditorium.

In August 2010 specialist electrical contractors installed a new wiring infrastructure for the stage sound system including patching and socket outlets for loudspeakers in all areas of the stage and auditorium. Robolights involvement was to manufacture and pre-assemble all necessary connection points and patch panels ready for installation.

In July 2010 the Salisbury Playhouse updated the theatres exisiting show relay and paging system. Robolights contribution to the project was to manufacture enclosures for custom designed FOH and ROH paging stations ready for wiring and installation.

Birmingham Hippodrome.July 2010 sees Robolights manufacturing a second bespoke house and working light patch for the Birmingham Hippodrome. The patch uses Neutrik Powercon 20 Amp connectors and matches the earlier house light patch supplied in 2007. As part of this project Robolights also manufactured several bespoke indicator panels for integration with the Hippodrome's production lighting dimming system..

Abbeywood Community School (formerly Filton High School) is £30M development providing 800 students with state-of-the-art facilities including,
a sports hall, music recording studio and computer suites, as well as classrooms, a library and an art balcony.
In May 2010 specialist contractor StageCraft Technical Services were awarded the contract to provide the performance areas with production lighting bars, audio facility panels and a host of other equipment. Robolights were asked to manufacture and pre-assemble the necessary bespoke facility panels for the project ready for installation.
