The Lyric Theatre, King Street, Carmarthen, Wales, UK

Production Lighting Facility Panels.




The Carmarthen Theatre is today a very well equipped venue and is the home of Carmarthen & District Youth Opera as well as being a cinema. Having been left desolate and empty in the early 1980's the Carmarthen Theatre was refurbished throughout with the addition of a new fly tower complete with 32 counterweight sets, a large orchestra pit for up to 64 players, and new wardrobe and dressing rooms. The Carmarthen Theatre today is a very well equipped Theatre & Cinema venue and is also the home of Carmarthen & District Youth Opera.

In October 2009 specialist electrical contractor Fagan Electrical were awarded the contract to carryout re-wiring and installation works to provide the theatre with new production lighting facility panels throughout. Robolights were asked by Fagan Electrical to manufacture and pre-wire all the facility panels for the project ready for installation. The project called for some 15 bespoke panels each incorporating Socapex style multi-pin connectors and 15A outlets for the 144 stage lighting circuits along with technical power and DMX512 lighting control outlets.

Octagon Theatre, Yeovil, Somerset, UK

Controls System for Motorised Flying Bars.


The Octagon Theater started life in 1974 as a multi-purpose hall and has since seen several refurbishments adding new seating, rehearsal space and a scene dock. The Octagon is today a major venue in Somerset with 626 seats and superb technical facilities and equipment.

June 2009 saw specialist electrical contractor Fagan Electrical installing new Motorized flying bars at the Octagon. Robolights involvement in this project was to manufacture and pre-wire the purpose built control and emergency stop panels designed by Fagan Electrical which make up the control system.

The Coliseum Theatre, St Martin's Lane, City of Westminster, London, UK

Temporary Stage Power Distribution Unit.




The Coliseum Theatre (also known as the London Coliseum) opened its doors in 1904 and is home to the English National Opera. The Coliseum is one of London's largest and best equipped theatres. The theatre was designed by theatrical architect Frank Matcham (also designer of the London Palladium), for impresario Oswald Stoll. Their ambition was to build the largest and finest 'People's palace of entertainment' of its age, something they certainly achieved.

In March 2009 Robolights were asked by specialist electrical contractor Fagan Electrical to construct a custom temporary power distribution unit to their tight specification for permanent installation at the Coliseum. Fagan's design called for a specific enclosure and paint finish so as to match the equipment already installed. The finished unit provides single and three phase outlets up to 125 Amps with MCB and adjustable RCB protection.

The Dominion Theatre, Tottenham Court Road, London, UK

Replica Wall Lanterns.




At the time or writing the Dominion Theatre is still the home of the hit musical 'We Will Rock You'. March 09 sees specialist electrical contractor Fagan Electrical continuing with the refurbishment and replacement of the unique lanterns in the foyer and staircases of this classic and beautiful venue. As part of the project Robolights manufactured the replacement, replica wall lanterns to match the ceiling lanterns supplied earlier in July 2008. Again high efficiency, low energy light sources were used as part of the upgrading whilst retaining all the design features of the original fittings.

The Gaiety Theatre, Douglas, Isle of Man

Production Lighting Facility Panels.




The Gaiety Theatre is another beautiful theatre designed by Frank Matcham, the most sought after theatre Architect of his day. Amongst many quite stunning architectural features is the 30 foot diameter rose window of stained and clear glass set in decorative plasterwork.

December 2008 saw specialist electrical contractor Fagan Electrical carrying out extensive installation work including new production lighting facility panels and motorised hoists for the stage lighting bars. Robolights contribution was to manufacture and pre-wire all facility panels for the project ready for installation. The project called for some 25 bespoke panels each incorporating Socapex style multi-pin connectors and 16A outlets for the stage lighting circuits along with technical power and lighting control outlets.

The Salisbury Playhouse, Salisbury, Wiltshire, UK

Production Lighting Facility Panels.


The Salisbury Playhouse was built in 1976 and is currently the only producing theatre in Wiltshire. In 2006/7 the theatre expanded with the addition of a community and education space along with a new rehearsal room. July 2008 saw specialist electrical contractor Fagan Electrical carrying out extensive electrical work at the Playhouse. The project included new production lighting facility panels, working light controls and internally wired stage lighting bars and booms. Robolights contribution to the project was to manufacture and pre-wire all facility panels for the project ready for installation. The project called for some 50+ bespoke panels each incorporating a variety of Socapex style multi-pin connectors and 15A outlets for the stage lighting circuits along with technical power and lighting control outlets. Robolights Smart Sockets were also the client's choice of socket outlet for several new lighting bars and booms also installed as part of the project.

The Wyndhams Theatre, Charing Cross, London, UK

Production Lighting Facility Panels.


Named after Charles Wyndham, a highly respected actor of his time, the Wyndhams Theatre had its grand opening in November 1899. The theatre's architect was William Sprague who at the time was at the peak of his career. The Wyndham's was the first West End theatre designed by Sprague in his own right and is still considered a theatrical gem today.

July 2008 saw specialist electrical contractor Fagan Electrical carrying out extensive electrical work at the Wyndhams installing new wiring an production lighting facility panels throughout. Robolights involvement was to manufacture and wire all the bespoke panels for the project. A number of these panels were carefully designed so as to be as discrete as possible fitting within the confines of the balcony fronts. Fagan Electricals design called for a number of very narrow units containing Socapex, 13A power, video and Ethernet connections providing all the necessary services whilst lending with the building. Other production lighting panels provided 16A outlets for dimmed stage lighting, Socapex style multipin connectors, technical power outlets and a number of 5kW dimmed circuits.

The Old Rep Theatre, Station Street, Birmingham, UK

Facility Panels for Stage Management System.


The Old Rep Theatre Birmingham was built in 1913, and is home to the Birmingham Stage Company and also several local amateur companies. The Old Rep Theatre was the first in England to be specifically designed for repertory. From 1913-1971 the theatre was home to Birmingham Repertory Company, led by Sir Barry Jackson, who staged numerous prestigious productions, many of which have been landmarks in theatre history. July 2008 saw specialist electrical contractor Fagan Electrical undertaking the installation of a new Stage Management control system and associated equipment. Robolights task was to manufacture all specialist facility panels for ready for installation. The facility panels designed and specified by Fagan's design team included multi-pin connectors for the Stage Managers Desk, connectors for cue lights, video, intercom and technical power.

The Dominion Theatre, Tottenham Court Road, London, UK

Foyer Replica Lanterns.




The Dominion was constructed in 1928 and became a cinema in 1930. Since the early 1990's the venue has played host to a unique version of Jesus Christ Superstar, a new production of Grease, Scrooge - The Musical, Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake, Disney's Beauty & The Beast, a return of Grease and Notre-Dame De Paris amongst others. Since 2003 it has been the home of the hit musical 'We Will Rock You'. The Dominion has a beautiful Foyer with one of the main features being its uniquely designed lanterns above the stairs and first floor landings. As part of an upgrade Robolights was tasked with manufacturing replicas of these spectacular fittings fitted with low energy light sources. Specialist electrical contractors Fagan Electrical carried out the necessary installation work and provided the client with the complete replacement solution.

The Public, New Street, West Bromwich, UK

Production Lighting Facility Panels

Custom Sound & Stage Temporary Power Distribution.




This remarkable and unusual building opened in June 2008 and provides a number of event spaces beneath some unusual architecture. Fagan Electrical won the bidding to carry out the technical installation work and worked closely with Theatre Consultant Paul Covell to install a large number of cleverly design facility panels which blended in with the architecture. These facility panels provided all necessary stage lighting outlets, sound tie lines, technical and clean earth sound power along with data, video and intercom connections. Working alongside Fagan Electrical, Robolights undertook the manufacture and pre-wiring of all facility panels, providing them ready connect straight to the installed wiring. Robolights also manufactured two, bespoke temporary power distribution units each measuring 1.3m in height and incorporating MCB and RCD protected outlets from 13A through to 125A in single and three phase configurations.

The Mermaid Conference Centre, Blackfriars, London, UK

380 Way 'Powercon' Production Lighting Patch Panel.


The historic Mermaid Theatre is located at Puddle Dock, Blackfriars. The Mermaid was conceived in the 1950's by the late Sir Bernard Miles. He funded the building by persuading the City of London to donate the site and asking the people of London to give him the money to buy the bricks. Sir Bernard had the foresight to design and build more than just a theatre, and it is thanks to him that the Mermaid Conference and Events Centre now boasts a wider range of rooms than just about any other City venue. In December 2007 specialist electrical contractor Fagan Electrical was awarded the contract to install a substantial production lighting patch panel for the Mermaid Conference Centre. Robolights role was to manufacture and pre-wire the unit ready for installation. The completed panel was 3.3 m long, fitted with 186 colour coded patch leads, each terminating with a 20 Amp Neutrik Powercon connector. 380 Powercon socket outlets were installed in facility panels mounted either side of the patch cords and wired out to the final socket outlets around the venue.

Theatre Royal Bath - Ustinov, Monmouth Street, Bath, Somerset, UK

Production Lighting Facility Panels.


Built in 1997 and named after the actor Peter Ustinov, the Ustinov Studio is the Theatre Royal's second space located at the rear of the building on Monmouth Street. In 2007 a substantial re-fit was carried out under the watchful eye of London based Architects Haworth Tompkins. Specialist electrical contractors Fagan Electrical were tasked with the installation of new production lighting facility panels, new production lighting bars and motorized hoists and control. Robolights part in the project was to supply Fagan Electrical with all necessary pre-wired, pre-assembled facility panels for all areas. These facility panels included outlets for all services such as production lighting, sound, communications, data, cue lights and intercom.

September 07 sees Robolights manufacturing and supplying specialist electrical contractor Fagan Electrical with all the bespoke, pre-wired Production Lighting facility panels for this project. These panels were supplied wired to DIN rail terminations ready to connect to the existing building wiring. The panels included a number of 5kW (via 32A socket) dimmed circuits along with Socapex style connectors for the groups of patched 2kW circuits. Robolights also manufactured a House Light Patch to Fagan's design which used the Neutrik 20 Amp Powercon range of connectors.

Production Lighting Facility Panels.


In August 07 specialist electrical contractor Fagan Electrical were awarded the contract for the stage lighting refurbishment works at this prestigious venue in the heart of London's West End. Robolights involvement was to manufacture and supply all the bespoke facility panels for the project to Fagan Electrical, pre-wired to ease installation. Many of these panels were painted so as to match the décor of the building and were designed to be as discrete as possible. Fagan Electrical's design team specified a selection of extremely narrow units containing Socapex, 13A, Video and Ethernet connections to be set into the balcony fronts providing all, the necessary services whilst blending with the building. The stage lighting dimmed and non-dimmed circuits terminated at 16A sockets on the production lighting panels with dimmed circuits also available via a Socapex style connectors on the same panel for easy connection of lighting bars or break out boxes.

Smart Clamp awarded widget of the year

June 14 2007, London. The Robolights Smart Clamp has been awarded the 'Widget Award' in the 2007 Product of the Year nominations at the Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT) annual Exhibition.

The judges commented that the Smart Clamp was "An encouraging development in moving the evolution of the hook clamp into the 21st century."

These prestigious and much coveted product awards are presented at the annual awards dinner during the week of the Exhibition. Robolights Technical Director - Julian Baycock was delighted to receive the 'silver hook clamp' trophy from the Chairman of the judges, Robin Townley, ABTT Hon. Secretary.

The Kings Theatre, Albert Road, Southsea, Portsmouth, UK

Production Lighting Facility Panels.


Robolights were very pleased to manufacture and supply the bespoke stage lighting and audio facility panels for this project to specialist electrical contractor Fagan Electrical. The overall project involved the restoration of this beautiful auditorium along with cleaning and repairs to the ornate plasterwork and a thorough upgrade of the stage lighting and audio wiring. The purpose designed facility panels included connections for lighting control via conventional 5 pin XLR alongside RJ45 connectors for Ethernet. The stage lighting dimmed and non-dimmed circuits terminated at 15A sockets on the lighting panels with dimmed circuits also available via a Socapex style connectors for easy connection to the lighting bars.
